Matthias Franke is Director of the institute Branch Sulzbach-Rosenberg of Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMISCHT, Germany. At the University of Birmingham he has an honorary professorship at the School of Chemical Engineering. At the University of Munich Prof. Franke is lecturer of the international study course on sustainable resource management.
Prof. Franke is member of the German Association for Waste Management, the Circular Economy Coalition for Europe and member of the Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
His research work covers a wide range of aspects of the circular economy from waste collection to recycling technologies for different waste streams and end-of-life products.
The technological focus of his R&D is on chemical recycling of plastic waste and composite materials.
